Government Clean Energy Rebates
Being a homeowner requires the constant upkeep of the home and property. There are various routines that can be carried out! Some of these can be expensive. With the big push in the last decade to be environmentally friendly and energy efficient, the government has been giving out rebates or grants for certain updates. If you are planning to upgrade your home, here are a few of the government incentives that can get you some money back!
- Heating and Cooling Incentive
$250 – When you replace your existing furnace with the purchase and installation of a new eligible high-efficient furnace equipped with an Electronically Commutated Motor (ECM).
$250 – When you purchase and install a new ENERGY STAR, certified central air conditioning (CAC) system that satisfies at least a 14.5 SEER and 12 EER.
$400 – When you purchase and install an ENERGY STAR, certified CAC system that satisfies at least a 15 SEER and 12.5 EER.

- Home Energy Conservation
To receive this rebate you must complete two or more of the qualified energy upgrades. These upgrades must achieve a 15% fuel savings in order to qualify.
Up to $2,100 – Insulation, air sealing, window replacements, space heating system, water heating system etc.
- Enbridge Home Winter Proofing Program
Winter proofing is a FREE program that aims to help families in need. You must make no more than $40,886 after taxes for a two person household. To be eligible, you must pay your own gas bills, heat your home with natural gas and be an Enbridge customer.
Incentive: Free program to winter proof your home
- Energy Efficient Housing Program – Genworth
If you buy an energy efficient home and are using Genworth as your mortgage insurer you can qualify for up to 25% rebate on your mortgage insurance.
Incentive: Up to 25% of Mortgage Insurance
- Annual Coupons
A series of coupons for various items in your home. For example Light bulbs, light fixtures, fans, lighting control, weatherstripping. They give you coupons for a few dollars for different items.
Incentive: Coupons ranging from 2$-30$
- Heating and Cooling Incentive
If you use certain contractors you can be eligible to qualify for certain incentives to install ENERGY STAR central air, Tier 2 stand alone air conditioning system and/or high-efficiency furnace equipped with an ECM.
Incentive: Up to $650 Rebate
- Halton Region’s Toilet Rebate Program
If you switch to a Halton-Approved water-efficient toilet you can be eligible for a rebate of up to $75.
Incentive: $75 Rebate (1 Per Household)
- Home Reno Rebate – UNION GAS
You can receive up to $5000 in incentives to renovate your home to become more energy efficient. Rebates for Furnace, water heater, wood burning system and windows/doors.
Incentives: Up to $5000 (combined all incentives)
- Lighting Incentives
These are incentives to help homes and social housing reduce their costs due to lighting fixtures. There are different incentives for each of these scenarios depending on savings you get. Click the link for more info!

- Home Weatherization Program
Union Gas will weatherize your home for free if you qualify. Weatherization is mostly insulation in walls and attic. It can save you up to 30% on your gas bills
Incentive: Free Program if eligible
- Home Energy Conservation Inventive Program
This incentive is to add adequate insulation to your home! There are a few steps that need to be taken to receive this rebate. You must be a Union Gas customer, own a home and heat your home with anything but electric. You must call a Certified Energy Advisor before and after completing the work to complete a pre-renovation assessment.
Up to $5000 in rebates
Up to 80$ per window/door – For each window, door, or skylight replaced with ENERGY STAR-qualified model
$1000 for Furnace/Boiler – If you are replacing or upgrading a gas, propane or oil furnace!
$500 for Water Heater – If you are replacing your water heater with a more energy efficient one.
Becoming a homeowner is one of the biggest investments you will make in your lifetime.
